Shift your Focus

Can this help with your anxiety?

Whether you have acute or mild symptoms of anxiety, it most likely diminishes happiness in your life. There are traditional and alternative approaches in which you can manage anxiety. Anxiety help is there, and I definitely recommend finding a treatment or treatments that will work for you.

Anxiety help that involves ignoring it as a badly behaving child

On the other hand, anxiety help doesn't need to be focused only on "treating anxiety." Anxiety is usually accompanied by a sense of lack of control in your life. What if we for a moment stopped focusing on anxiety and stop trying to fix it? What if we treated it as a badly behaving child and ignore it for a second?

Even better yet, what if we focus on something entirely different? It can be helpful to focus on other emotions that are not necessarily a part of emotions that cause anxiety. If you see anxiety responses as a set of skills that helped you survive, it's possible that you are currently overusing these skills. Thus, developing other skills can help put this anxiety in the background.

The fact is that along with your anxiety there are so many other aspects of your life. You have many good things going for you. When you negative thoughts start overwhelming you, you can be in charge and shift your focus to something else that's going well in your life. By the power of association, this positive thought will lead to another thought, and then another one, and so on. Soon enough, you negative triggering thoughts will lose their power.

Of course, the anxiety voice within will try to emerge again and tell you how you should be scared when things are going well and that you shouldn't enjoy this. What can you tell it? You can acknowledge it and thank it for reminding you of important aspects that you need to think about. You can tell it, "I appreciate your concerns. If some obstacles arise, I'll handle it then. I've handled so many hardships before. I will be able to manage this too. But, for now, I want to focus on this beautiful moment.

Developing gratitude is a great skill that will help you increase happiness and reduce negative emotions that often lead towards anxiety. What's important to note is that it's a skill that you can work on developing. It takes some practice, but you will be able to acquire it. Also, making some lifestyle changes can be helpful in managing the symptoms and increasing overall happiness.
